REFLECTIVE LEARNING

A journey of growing plant. By: Adila Erwin Date: 25 January 2021   This is my first time experience to actually growing a plant. Through this journey, a lot of new information I have gained since I indulge in this plant project. What I have learned in theory class is different from the practical. This project have teach me such as the soil types, the used of rice husk, and the types of fertilizers used is depend on which stages we would like it to grow into. In addition, I also learnt some plants can be very sensitive but some can be very resistant.  This project also teach me to be more patience and find a way to solve it. During 10 or 11 weeks of growing, my plants have not yet undergo flowering stages. A single bud is still not visible. JOURNAL 6: POLLINATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF EMBRYO

Week 6 So now I will talk about plant pollination. Do you know how pollination occurs?? Which part of plants involve in pollination?? How can plant do the double fertilisation?? Pollination occurs by the agent carrier such as wind, insect or water. This agent will transfer pollen to the part of seed plant containing the ovules. Male reproductive organ are anther and filament while female reproductive organ are stigma,style and ovary. There will be 2 sperm, one of it will fertilizes the egg generating into zygote, another one will fertilizes a polar cell with 2 nuclei and generating into endosperm. This is only a short and simple introduction to this chapter. JOURNAL 5: DIVISION CYCLE OF PLANTS AND TOTIPOTENCY

Week 5 Division cycle also occur in plant since they need to grow in cell number. --> mitosis What is mean by totipotency?? Before the lecture session start, I do not know the concept of totipotency. But after I do the researching, totipotency is an ability of plant to regenerate into a whole plant even by plant cell/tissue/organ. It means plant is an indeterminate organism. Even you cut, it will grow as whole. Look on how unique plant is. Furthermore, this ability have different pathways of regeneration by the plant and tissue culture process. This tissue culture will begin from the explant. New terms that I learned: Explant -  transfer (living cells, tissues, or organs) from animals or plants to a nutrient medium. Callus -  a thickened and hardened part of the skin or soft tissue, especially in an area that has been subjected                   to friction.   What activity we done during the lesson?? JOURNAL 4: ENDOSYMBIOSIS

Week 4 Where do the eukaryotic cell come from??? This topic of endosymbiosis will explain about it. The term of endosymbiosis itself explain where the eukaryotic generally come from. It happen when the fusion of prokaryotes causes the rising of eukaryotes. If the bacteria accidentally swallowed autotroph bacteria, it will become origin of eukaryotic plant cell. While if the bacteria accidentally swallowed heterotrophic, it became origin of eukaryotic animal cell. It is said that origin of eukaryotic cell organelles such as mitochondria in animal and chloroplast in plant was greatly advanced by the endosymbiosis process. Thus, our lecturer had given task to compare and contrast the difference of mitochondria and chloroplast. Week 3 Another week with another chapter which are about prokaryotes,viruses,prions and viroids. Okay, so all of you must have already know what is prokaryotes, right?? Prokaryotes is much more simpler, have no membrane-bound organelles, no nucleus and so on compared to eukaryotes. But before I continue with this creatures, I just want to tell all of you, we need to thanked all of scientist who had contributed themselves in discovered microorganism such as plant cell and animal cell and also made up the cell theory of life. This is because during the lesson of this chapter, we were watching video of the scientist journey in discovering cell and facing many challenging problems. Week 2 This week we learn about the history of life How did life begin?? Approximately, 4.6 billion years ago earth was formed. But we want to know the formation of earth. So, the earth was said to be formed from the combination of smaller molecules that were carried by comets or that one that present on primitive earth. From this, the ideas of prebiotic broth hypothesis was made. This hypothesis proposes that organic molecules formed near earth’s surface-in a sea of organic soup or on rock or clay surfaces. JOURNAL 1: CHARLES DARWIN & EVOLUTION

Week 1 The topic for the first week is about  Charles Darwin and Evolution. What do I learn from this topic? Basically, I learn the ideas made by Charles Darwin in terms of evolution where the development of cell occur step by step that change during time. Also, there was another scientist that built another ideas where organisms experience changes from simple to complex. Another theory came from Lamarck where the environment pressure causes the body changes which happen from the short neck giraffe to long neck giraffe.However, Charles came by with another idea where natural selection occur within the environment that causes the physical changes of giraffe. From my opinion, the idea should be compromised because why not??
